The recipe for our delicious, spicy spaghetti sauce came from Lucca, a town located near Pisa in the Tuscany Valley of Italy.

There, in 1886. Luigi Bernardini and his twin bother Dominic drew straws to decide which one of them would use the money that had been saved to come to America. Luigi won, traveled across the ocean and landed at Ellis Island, and proceeded on to Calais, Maine.

We, his descendants, use the same recipe today. and we offer it to you--ENJOY!

About our wooden decor--The wainscoting, newel posts and kitchen doors were purchased at auction when the Immaculate Conception Church here in Calais (1893 - 1988) was demolished. The newel posts came from the stairs that led from the altar boys' dressing room to to the sacristry The wainscoting came from the church proper and choir loft. The doors came from each side of the Altar, one providing entrance to the sacristy, the other to the confessional. No wood has been refinished- -It is as It came from the church.
